The only thing that hurts more than not seeing Nick Chubb on the field last season is not seeing Nick Chubb as one of our highest-rated DRBR finishers. He only played in two games, but the dude looked like he was going to be his elite self. Really, there's not a whole lot to say about Nick Chubb and his DRBR from last year, but there will be a whole lot to say as he works his way back from injury and what that score looks like for next season.
Jerome Ford is really the main one that we need to pay attention to right now because, more than likely, he is going to be the primary back if Nick Chubb misses any time to begin the season, with D'Onta Foreman also seeing a few touches as well. Jerome Ford could continue his work in the passing game all season long, and even though Jerome Ford scored really well in these areas, these are some of the highest scores I've seen for a guy that didn't even average four yards per carry last season.
So, what does that tell us about Jerome Ford? Well, it tells us, yeah, he was making people miss and he was picking up yards after contact. So, a majority of the time that he was getting hit, he was getting hit at or before the line of scrimmage or very shortly after. He wasn't a guy that was getting down the field and then breaking tackles or moving towards the deeper part of the field and breaking tackles. A lot of his contact was coming right at the line, and unfortunately, that's going to be an issue with the offensive line for me.
I still have the same feelings about Jerome Ford. If you're investing in him to be a guy that's going to continuously help you all season long, that's where you're making a mistake. But on draft day, if you get him at a decent price, I definitely think Jerome Ford could end up being some type of a flex option during the year, especially after Nick Chubb comes back and if Ford continues to work in the passing game.
Now, the Cleveland Browns have a few more options than what they have had over the last few years in the passing game, but Jerome Ford could be a nice little dump-off candidate in those games where Cleveland just isn't keeping up the pace or playing from behind.
