DRBR: New Orleans Saints

Updated: Jul 8

Alvin Kamara’s efficiency continues to be on a downward trend. Over the last three years, the DRBR continues to show poor performances from him in the efficiency categories, but volume continues to prop him up.

I don't know if he's going to get any more efficient this year than what he has been, given the quarterback situation in New Orleans. But I will tell you one thing — volume alone, especially in the passing game, could be enough for him to be just fine.

Over the last four seasons, Alvin Kamara hasn’t even been able to average 4.0 yards per carry. It’s a downward trend that has kept him from reaching the ceiling he hit when he first entered the league. And even though he’s still getting a decent amount of receiving work, that also hasn’t been the same over the last four years.

Kamara will be entering his age-30 season, and seeing a downward trend — especially for a guy that’s had as much volume as he has — isn’t shocking. But in 2025, with a lot of questions at quarterback, volume could still be fine, even if the efficiency isn’t great.

Backup Situation

The backup running back situation will be one to monitor in New Orleans.

In very limited action over the last couple of years, Kendre Miller has actually had very solid DRBR scores in the efficiency areas:

  • 69 in yards after contact

  • 100 in tackles avoided per attempt

He looked even a little better the year prior. But it doesn’t feel like the Saints are happy with him.

This was a coaching staff that had some negative things to say about him last year — regarding being on the field, his effort, and his availability. And it kind of shows. They went out and added:

  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire

  • Devin Neal (draft pick)

  • Cam Akers

So, they’ve got a bullpen of running backs to really fight for that RB2 role.

For Kendre Miller, it’s all about staying healthy and staying on the field. This could be a good 1-2 punch with Kamara if they decide to go that route. But based on what we’ve seen from the Saints so far — with the current QB mess and this running back committee — it’s murky.

Fantasy Outlook

If Alvin Kamara is a guy you can draft as your RB2, so be it — especially in PPR.In half-PPR, his ceiling comes down a bit, but his floor isn’t all that bad.In standard leagues? I’m probably staying away completely.
