DRBR: New England Patriots

I don't think it's safe to assume that Rhamondre Stevenson has already lost his job just because the New England Patriots drafted TreVeyon Henderson.

Does it help him? Obviously not. But Rhamondre Stevenson still continues to be decently effective. His numbers have not matched his breakout campaign from 2022, something that we used the DRBR to accurately predict, but he still hasn't been all that bad.

A lot has changed over the course of the last couple of years. This offense has kind of gone down and down and down — with Drake Maye last year shooting a little bit of life into it — and hopefully it's growing even more moving forward.

But the addition of TreVeyon Henderson does make things a lot harder to figure out.

From an efficiency standpoint, Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson were both solid last year.

  • Antonio Gibson was actually way better efficiency-wise:

    • 84 in yards after contact

    • 100 in tackles avoided per attempt

    • 67 in receiving yards after the catch

  • Rhamondre Stevenson:

    • 62 in yards after contact

    • 71 in tackles avoided per attempt

Now, we’ve seen scores much worse from running backs who still continue to put up good numbers and aren’t losing their jobs anytime soon.

For Rhamondre Stevenson, the bigger issue is fumbles. He led the league with seven fumbles last season.

If he's still the starter to begin the year — which I believe he will be — as long as he's not fumbling the ball all over the place, TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson will play a complementary role.

Rhamondre Stevenson still has a lot of money left on his contract through the end of 2025, and it would not be cheap to get rid of him. So, I do expect them to still utilize him in year one.

This is a Mike Vrabel offense — we know he loves running the football, pounding it, and winning games in the trenches. So, there are going to be touches to go around.

For Rhamondre Stevenson, there's still going to be a decent amount of upside, even if his touches are limited.
