Chuba Hubbard had a breakout campaign in 2024, but was it a sign of things to come or a blip on the radar? Based on his DRBR score — maybe a little bit of both. Because when you take a look at what he did last season, you can definitely find value in that for your fantasy team, but you don't want to overvalue it.
The majority of his score was based on volume. Last year, he was the main running back and saw a career high in volume. He was trusted in the backfield and did a very solid job. When you take a look at the efficiency numbers, however, there's some decent numbers — 74 in yards after contact, 71 in tackles avoided per attempt. Doesn't really do a whole lot in the passing game.
But now we've added a backup running back that was very similar to Chuba Hubbard. Now the one thing Chuba has going for him is he got a pretty good contract extension last year — the type of extension that would lead you to believe he will still be the starter. But when you take a look at the numbers for Chuba Hubbard, you see starter-like numbers, but you don't see a guy that is going to be a high-upside running back.
Chuba Hubbard, to me, based on the DRBR, is a guy that if we are drafting as an RB3, we're probably going to be okay with. If you're taking a shot at him as your RB2, that's where you could get into trouble — because if he doesn't get the volume that he had last season, because they give Rico Dowdle really more touches than what they should, the efficiency numbers may not be enough to give him the upside that you would need or the floor that you would need to start him every single week.
