De'Von Achane's DRBR score from 2023 was a monster. He scored 100 in yards after contact, and 99 in tackles avoided per attempt. And if he could stay healthy for a full 17-game slate, it was looking like he could be a big-time playmaker. But health was always the key — and he also took care of that as well.
Now, unfortunately, his DRBR numbers suffered significantly last season — and it may not be his fault. It could be the offense as a whole: Tua missing time again, Tyreek Hill being banged up, and really, Miami’s offense for a large portion of the season just being completely ineffective.
With De'Von Achane, it might be worth noting that it’s the offense’s fault, not his — and maybe his 2023 numbers are what we should expect in 2025.
From a volume standpoint, last year was good — especially receiving. He has shown that he can be a true threat in the receiving game for Miami. Now we just need Tua to stay healthy. We need Tyreek Hill to be healthy. And hopefully, this offensive line isn’t awful in 2025.
Missing Terron Armstead is not going to be easy to fix on this offensive line. They’ve got a couple of key contributors who were injured for a majority of last year and are now trying to return from those injuries. The offensive line is going to be key for De'Von Achane.
We know that he can be explosive. We know that the DRBR numbers from the past have shown us that if he gets the ball enough, he is a high-upside running back every single week.
But there’s a lot going on in this offense that concerns me.
If everything goes right, he’s got top-5 potential.
If everything goes wrong, that’s where things could get a little dicey for where he needs to be drafted.
And I do want to point out that Jaylen Wright, coming into his sophomore season, would be a very viable backup candidate if something were to happen to Achane. He scored 70 in yards after contact and 85 in tackles avoided per attempt.
We knew that he was that type of a player coming out of Tennessee during his rookie season last year. This year, he’s going to get a larger workload with no Raheem Mostert.
I don’t think we’re going to see a 50/50 split. More than likely, De'Von Achane will be in the
60% range.
But once again, Jaylen Wright is somebody that you either need to:
Draft as your backup to Achane
Or have as a priority add if something were to happen throughout the season
