Josh Jacobs is no stranger to huge DRBR scores. In fact, since I developed this thing back in 2017, and since we've been including this in our draft guide since 2019, Josh Jacobs’ 2022 season is still one of the biggest breakouts I’ve ever called by using the DRBR to pinpoint it.
And he found a ton of success in year one with the Green Bay Packers. And good for him, because he's had some up and down seasons while being in Las Vegas/Oakland. So hopefully consistency is the name of the game now for Josh Jacobs. Because when you look at his career with the Raiders — big season, down season, big season — it was just back and forth, back and forth. So hopefully 2025 is not a down season.
But when you take a look at the scores, everything should be just fine. Josh Jacobs may be one of my favorite picks in 2025, because as of right now, I think he’s being undervalued by quite a bit. His ADP is going to fluctuate, but here at the beginning of draft season, you see him going right around that mid to late portion of the second round.
So regardless of what you decide at the beginning of the first round — whether it’s one of the top running backs or top wide receivers — Josh Jacobs at the end of the second as your RB1, or the end of the second as your RB2, could be one of the best decisions that you make all draft season.
The backup running back position could be a little tricky in 2025, though, and I would say backup Josh Jacobs. That’s going to be a really good investment for you. But that offense is good enough that if Jacobs misses any time, you're going to want whoever the backup running back is.
Emanuel Wilson’s numbers look fantastic. 63 in yards after contact — he's not necessarily going to be that type of running back — but 92 in tackles avoided per attempt. With that type of number right there and these type of overall efficiency scores, Emanuel Wilson could end up being a great replacement if Josh Jacobs misses any time.
But MarShawn Lloyd, who played in only one game last year, should be back. Does he get the RB2 role? Is it Emanuel Wilson? We might have to try and decide at some point who we take that shot on. For right now, I’ll still go ahead and give Emanuel Wilson a little bit of a bump up, but the depth charts tell us it might be Lloyd instead.
