There really isn't a whole lot to say about Christian McCaffrey in 2023. He had his second-best career season, only being outdone by his 1,000-1,000 campaign a few years ago. He's been healthy the last couple of years, and his efficiency is absolutely dominant compared to where it was back in Carolina. For as many question marks as the San Francisco offense has, Christian McCaffrey isn't one of them.
Yeah, we never know on a weekly basis who's going to get the ball between George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel. Are they going to be running or throwing the football? It never really matters. Whatever the game plan, Christian McCaffrey will continue to be the focal point of that. Christian McCaffrey finished as an RB2 or higher in every single game last season: 14 games he finished as an RB1, and two games he finished as an RB2. That right there is not only consistency and a high ceiling but really the safest player in all of football.
So in 2024, if you decide to make Christian McCaffrey your number one overall pick, you're getting the safest player in all of football with some of the biggest upside of any player in all of football. The only question that will continue to pop up is health. Christian McCaffrey has been healthy the last two years, but the last time he got a huge workload like this for two straight seasons, he ended up being banged up for two straight seasons. It's going to be something that sticks in the back of our minds, and we're not going to be able to get rid of it until it actually happens. But for now, just enjoy the ride. You can draft Christian McCaffrey; just make sure your backup running backs are really strong so if he does miss some time, you don't have to worry about the position.
