NFL Draft & Charger Fit
Selected 22nd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Chargers
Signed a 4-year/$17.77M rookie contract
Chargers philosophy: Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman favor a heavy rushing approach—Roman’s past offenses led league in rushing attempts
Backfield pairing: rookie Hampton alongside Najee Harris (one-year, $5.25M deal)
View the duo as a potential “1‑2 punch” that blends power with explosiveness
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Usage Opportunity
Hampton’s college average: ~23 carries and 3 catches per game in 2024 (23.4 carries, 3.2 receptions)
If the initial backfield split approximates 50–50 with Harris, that suggests 15–20 touches per game for Hampton in 2025
Explosiveness & Speed
Elite athletic testing and tracked speed — top-10 among recent FBS RBs — indicates breakaway/run-after-contact upside
Headliner Take
Omarion Hampton enters the 2025 fantasy football season as a key piece in the Chargers’ revamped, run-focused offense under Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman. After a dominant 2024 college campaign at North Carolina rushing for 1,660 yards, 15 touchdowns, and adding 38 receptions, Hampton’s size, burst, and versatility position him for immediate involvement. Sharing the backfield with Najee Harris, Hampton is expected to handle a significant portion of early-down work and contribute as a receiver. His explosive playmaking and fit in a zone-heavy scheme give him strong potential to deliver consistent fantasy value, especially given the Chargers’ commitment to the ground game. Here is the problem: Najee Harris is not some crap RB. He is going to have a role, and LA can run him into the ground if they want and let him walk next year. I love Hampton and he may be a Top 12 RB pick in 2026, but for this year I'm not drafting him unless he can start off the year on my bench to see how the split goes.
