On the field, Brock Bowers looks like one of the most athletic tight end prospects we've seen in a draft in recent history. Off the field, it looks like he's headed to Kohl's with his dad, Kirk Cousins, because they've got a ton of Kohl's cash they've got to use this weekend before it expires. Brock Bowers does not look the part, but somehow when he gets on the field, he turns into an athletic beast.
While he was in college, Brock Bowers took advantage of a lot of zone coverage and absolutely ate it up. But at the NFL level, when he has to start facing some nickel corners or some larger, faster linebackers, is his athleticism going to show as much as it did on tape? On top of that, I don't know how much I trust the Las Vegas Raiders. Really, for them, this looked like a "best player available" pick instead of looking at what their roster truly needed. They just drafted Michael Mayer last season. They already have Davante Adams, they brought in Michael Gallup, and they have Jakobi Meyers. They've got a lot of different guys that they could potentially throw the ball to. Are they really going to be able to get the ball over to him on a consistent basis?
Gardner Minshew didn't do that bad of a job last season for the Indianapolis Colts, but once again, I'm not buying into him being the savior of the offense and making it so much better than what we saw last season. If you want to draft Brock Bowers, absolutely go ahead and go for it, but just keep in mind how many rookie tight ends actually end up working out.
