It's going to be very interesting to see what we get from Najee Harris in 2024 with Arthur Smith running the offense and a much better quarterback than what they've had the last couple of years. Now in 2023, Najee Harris saw a substantial drop in his volume from what we've seen the last couple of years. Over 300 carries two years ago, down to 270, and down to 250 this past season. In the passing game, he barely made any type of impact. You can blame some of that on Jaylen Warren.
But for the positives, for the third straight season, Najee Harris played every single game. He also saw more efficiency this past season than he's ever seen before: his highest yards per attempt, his highest yards after contact per attempt, and his highest missed tackles forced. Najee Harris over the first couple of years of his career really became known for his volume, and that was about it. If he was getting the volume, he was fine, but efficiency-wise, he wasn't really doing a whole lot.
Now maybe it's changed a little bit. Taking away some of that volume and giving it to Jaylen Warren, creating a two-headed monster, has allowed Najee Harris to maybe not be banged up as much and to be a little bit more efficient. My fingers are crossed that it happens once again in 2024. With Russell Wilson at quarterback or maybe even Justin Fields at some point, I do feel like this offense is going to be a lot more explosive than what we have seen over the last couple of seasons, which would allow Najee Harris to potentially have a career year.
If I had to decide between Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, I would say Najee Harris will end up being a safer bet, a guy that's going to give you a better weekly floor. While Jaylen Warren, who is absolutely way better than Najee Harris in terms of efficiency, will make an impact in the passing game and have a higher weekly ceiling.
