QB: Patrick Mahomes II - KC

Updated: Jul 1, 2024

Patrick Mahomes just had his worst statistical season since 2019. He finished as the quarterback eight overall in fantasy football just last season. It was the first time that he didn't even throw for 30 passing touchdowns since 2019 either. He had a career low in touchdown percentage, success rate, yards per attempt, yards per completion, yards per game, and quarterback rating, all while having a career high in interceptions with 14, and yet still won the Super Bowl.

But it's Patrick Mahomes. We know he's going to throw the ball a lot. We know he's going to score fantasy points. It really comes down to this offense as a whole, and the biggest question there is Rashee Rice. Now, there have been a lot of rumors circulating here this offseason with what kind of suspension he could be facing for all his offseason antics off the field. Now, if he plays, Patrick Mahomes is in line to challenge for the quarterback one overall spot. If Rice misses any extended period of time, though, then all of a sudden, Patrick Mahomes kind of falls into that top three to top six range at the position.

Regardless, though, his offense is going to be better this year than it was last season. They drafted Xavier Worthy, and the dude is an absolute lightning bolt. They brought in Hollywood Brown from Arizona. They still have Travis Kelce, even though he's getting a little bit older. If Rice is dropped into that group, that's like assembling the Infinity Stones for Patrick Mahomes. Their offensive line should be solid once again as well, and we know their defense is still great.

But Kansas City, most importantly, I think, is chasing the three-peat: three straight Super Bowl wins. They want to be the first team in history to do that. I would not put it past Kansas City to go all out, and now that we have an improved offense for Patrick Mahomes, even if we get Rashee Rice back end of season, a huge late-season push, Patrick Mahomes could score a butt-ton of fantasy points in 2024.
