C.J. Stroud put together his all-time starting 11 on offense this offseason, and he included Tank Dell as his slot wide receiver. That says something, and we saw those flashes in 2023 before his season ended early due to an injury. He only played over 50% of the offensive snaps in eight games last season. In those eight games, he had 10-plus targets four times, three 100-yard games, and seven touchdowns.
He then suffered a fractured fibula on a goal-line play in which he never should have been on the field to begin with. Then we had a scare in April of this season where he had to recover from a minor gunshot wound. Now, though, he seems good to go. We need to look forward to the 2024 season, and unfortunately, his opportunity isn't going to be any better this year. He's going to be splitting targets with the likes of Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Dalton Schultz.
It's going to be hard for him to get consistent targets every single game, but he's going to have some big weeks. But so are Diggs, and so is Nico. They're all going to have a big game at some point in this offense. I love the talent; I love the overall offense. But this is going to be a fantasy nightmare each week to figure out. It's going to be impossible to know which wide receiver is going to go off which week in Houston. And for that reason, if I can't just stash Tank Dell on my bench for a few weeks, honestly, I'm probably just going to end up passing over him in the majority of drafts.
