After the disappearing act of 2023, so many fantasy football players have given up on Stefon Diggs. If you hurt a fantasy player in the fantasy playoffs, it's like a death sentence in this industry. But now he's not in Buffalo; he's in Houston, and now all of a sudden he has an excuse to underperform at times. It's because this offense is absolutely stacked: Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz, Joe Mixon—tons of options in this overall offense.
And now, all of a sudden, Stefon Diggs is not going to be solely relied upon in this offense on a weekly basis. He's going to have a smaller target share for sure. But this young up-and-coming Houston team did not bring in Stefon Diggs just to completely ignore him and not throw him the football. They paid Nico Collins; they love Nico Collins. But Stefon Diggs is a proven diva, and they don't want that locker room chemistry absolutely just ruined.
Now, Diggs is going to have a role. Like I said, he's going to see more one-on-one coverage in 2024 than he probably has in the last four years combined. He's going to have some big games, but at year's end, he's also going to end up with right around 1,100 yards and a handful of touchdowns. The issue is they're going to come in bunches; it's not going to be consistent weekly production. Nico, Tank, and Diggs—they're all going to have big weeks throughout the season.
Personally, I look at it this way: I would prefer my wide receiver two to not be some weekly boom-or-bust play unless I've absolutely nailed the first few picks of my draft and have a solid foundation. Worst case scenario, I would prefer Stefon Diggs to be my wide receiver three. But if you've nailed the first few rounds and you can afford to take a risk, that's when you consider Stefon Diggs.
