We are so used to seeing Diontae Johnson racking up targets in a Pittsburgh offense, it's kind of hard to picture him in a Carolina offense. But honestly, it's hard to picture anything good in a Carolina offense. Last year, this offensive line almost got Bryce Young killed. He had no time to throw the ball down the field; the kid was set up to fail. But now the offensive line has been improved this offseason. We also have a new head coach in Dave Canales. He came over from Tampa Bay with a new offense. That's Bryce's third offense now in three years.
Plus, there are more weapons this year in Carolina. Aside from Diontae Johnson, we still have Adam Thielen, Jonathan Mingo, and newly drafted first-round pick Xavier Legette. Now, I know I said this offensive line was improved, but can Bryce supply multiple wide receivers? Because on the surface, we already know he has the best chemistry with Adam Thielen. We saw that last year. New rookie Xavier Legette can make big things happen on short hot routes. Jonathan Mingo can be a deep threat. That leaves Diontae Johnson basically stuck in the middle of the field, just moving the chains, which isn't a bad thing by any means. But that also means he's not going to see huge volume, probably enough volume to make him a wide receiver three in fantasy football.
I personally try to find guys on more proven offenses with better quarterback play. At this point in the draft, I would rather take a stab on a rookie in a better situation with a guy like Xavier Worthy out of Kansas City.
