Value Picks: Romeo Doubs - GB

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

All right, guys, next up I want to talk about Romeo Doubs, wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers. So, he's coming in at the 144th pick, which puts him in the 12th round, wide receiver 61.

Now, listen, in the last 13 games last season, he had seven starts. Last year, Romeo went for 42 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns. Now, he was on a trajectory, you know, with Rodgers. He had a little rapport with him, a slight rapport. But it wasn't really, you know, like magnificent. You know, Rodgers has a little thing with rookies. It takes him a while to get into the flow with those guys. But he did show a slight rapport with Romeo Doubs.

But it seems like this year, the love for Doubs is coveted by another, you know, a little bit of tongue-in-cheek, but Jordan Love, that is. They have said that their chemistry is starting to develop more and more as this offseason is going on and in OTAs.

Now, listen, not thatWatson is not going to be used in this offense. He's a big-play receiver. Christian Watson is a phenomenal player. But Romeo Doubs is more of your steady, consistent guy. He wins a lot of 50-50 balls. And again, like I said, Jordan Love has shown that they have trust with each other and consistency. Love seems to have his sights set, excuse me, his sight set on number 87 early and often in camp. The second week in camp, he had seven passes during a two-minute drill, and four of them went to Romeo.

So again, like I said, they're showing this consistency. And another thing that I want to point out with this offense, it's a new offense, you know, all these new pieces, so to speak. With Jordan Love coming in as a new QB, Matt LaFleur wants to have everything to be as simple as possible. Of course, they're going to run the ball. That's going to be early and often. They're going to use Aaron Jones in a lot of ways as well. And again, Christian Watson, you know, they're going to just like, it's almost like a boxer. You're going to jab, jab, jab, and then all of a sudden, you're going to have an uppercut. Christian Watson is going to be that super uppercut, right? But Romeo Doubs is going to be that steady jab, just consistent, consistent. That's what you're going to see with him.

Now, another thing I want to point out is the increased target volume. So, okay, now you got Allen Lazard, you got Randall Cobb. They had a total of 150 targets between the two of them. Now that they're vacated, now they're going to be sprinkled around here and there, you know, from some of the other guys. Aaron Jones is going to, you know, pick up a lot of them as well. AJ Dillon also. Romeo Doubs, playing on the outside, majority of the time, he's going to see an increase in targets too. So you got to look at it. If you add with what he had last season, and let's just say you take a portion of that, let's just split the two, right? The 150 targets that Cobb and Lazard had left, you split those two between Watson and Romeo. Romeo could potentially still get 130 targets. That'll put him in the wide receiver 15 range.
