RB: James Connor - ARI

Updated: Jul 3, 2024

Last year was really a tale of two seasons for James Conner. He started the year looking good, finishing as the RB24 in Week 1, then RB14, and then RB6. But after a couple of back-to-back finishes as the RB36, barely even startable, he ended up missing several games due to injury once again. After a four-game absence, he was able to come back but could barely scratch out seven and a half fantasy points for the next three games after that. Honestly, it looked like James Conner was going to be done at that point.

But then, to end the season, James Conner had five straight games finishing as the RB1 or higher, and in four of those games, he was the RB5 or higher. The area that's a cause for concern is Week 4 through Week 12: two straight weeks of poor performances, four weeks of missed games, three straight weeks of poor performances. The games on the outside of either part of that portion were fantastic, but that's the concern about James Conner. He gets injured a little too often, and even when he's not missing games, he could still be hampered by smaller injuries that don't allow him the bursts that he has had in the past.

My main concern with James Conner this season is the fact that they drafted Trey Benson to back him up, and Trey Benson could absolutely steal his job if, for some reason, James Conner misses significant time. So, if you're drafting James Conner this season, expect to get some really good games out of him, but also expect him to miss some time. Be sure to draft his backup, Trey Benson, to go with him.
