RB: Ezekiel Elliott - DAL

Ezekiel Elliott went from being the superstar of the Dallas Cowboys to being released, taking on a backup role with the New England Patriots, and then returning to the Dallas Cowboys, all within a couple of years. Right now, moving forward for Ezekiel Elliott, I really don't know if things are going to get a whole lot better for him. It's easy to look at his situation and think to ourselves, "Man, is there a path to the production that we used to see when he was in Dallas?" He doesn't have a lot of competition for touches, and when you take a look at the team, the offense will still be pretty good, even if the offensive line may not be as good as what we've seen with Zeke in the past.

The only thing that could work in Zeke's favor this year is volume. When you take a look at his stats over the last few years and dive into the deep efficiency portion of them, Zeke Elliott has not been very efficient since his heyday with Dallas right after being drafted. It's probably been about three and a half years since he provided decent efficiency numbers to give him the type of upside that we would look for to have him be a consistent part of our fantasy lineup.

So, for Zeke this year, it's going to be all about the volume. If Zeke gets upwards of 200 to 230 touches, he might find himself in a situation where he could be a weekly flex option. But the upside is not going to be there, and we shouldn't be looking at him for more than what he could be, which is just a little bit of depth on our bench. Maybe a weekly flex option, but certainly not a guy that we want to rely on as our RB2.
