Last season in Houston, Devin Singletary saw his best season ever in terms of volume with a career high in attempts and rushing yards. But unfortunately, his efficiency took the biggest hit that he has seen so far since entering the league. It was his second worst season in yards after contact per attempt and his worst season by far for avoided tackles per attempt. He also added a career low in targets and receiving yards.
And that's moving from a Houston offense that had lots of weapons around him and one of the best young quarterbacks in the league to now moving to a New York Giants team with some questionable weapons and Daniel Jones. Now, they did spend a draft pick on Malik Nabers. They've got Jalin Hyatt, and they've got a few other C-tier, B-tier type receivers as well. But Devin Singletary's inefficiencies last season were not great in that offense, and I don't know how that part gets a whole lot better this season.
If you're looking to buy into Devin Singletary, you're just hoping that the guy gets 250 or so carries this season. But there's going to be some young running backs waiting to take over for him. And if a guy like Tyrone Tracy gets enough touches this season to show that he's capable of being more efficient, it could lead to a quick reduction in workload for Devin Singletary.
So think of Devin Singletary as like your RB3. If you draft him as such and utilize him as such, then you won't be as hard-pressed looking for a replacement if he were to lose his job.
