I haven't seen any numbers to suggest that Antonio Gibson is going to have a major impact with the New England Patriots this season, but there are definitely a couple of underlying things that we should be keeping an eye on. Now, let me preface this by saying Rhamondre Stevenson got paid this offseason, and if they anticipated Antonio Gibson taking a large majority of work from him, they wouldn't have extended him.
Last season, Antonio Gibson averaged 3.51 yards after contact per attempt, fifth most in the NFL. He also averaged 0.25 avoided tackles per attempt, tied for seventh in the NFL. If Antonio Gibson can keep that efficiency in 2024, we could look for him to make an impact in the passing game, potentially becoming a flex option at some point this season. I'm not investing in him with any type of draft pick, but he's going to be on my watch list, and we're going to keep an eye on his usage to begin the season.
Without any dominant pass catchers in New England right now, Antonio Gibson has an opportunity to see some targets out of the backfield. While Rhamondre Stevenson is still locked in as a mid to high-end RB2 for me, Antonio Gibson could be a guy that, after the first few weeks of the season, we stash on our team to throw into our flex spot in PPR leagues if we're dealing with injuries or when those bye weeks pop up.
