Tua is one of those guys that I just don't see a lot of people having interest in, but honestly, I don't mind him here this season. The dude just threw for 4,600 yards last year, and this Miami team is once again going to be challenging to be the best overall offense in the league.
We know about Tyreek Hill. We know about Jaylen Waddle. Yes, they've added Odell Beckham. No, he's not what he used to be, but he's a great wide receiver three option for this team and could still be a great outlet for Tua. They also added a fast, athletic tight end in Jonnu Smith. They added one of my favorite wide receivers in the draft in Malik Washington. They're loaded in the backfield with guys like Raheem Mostert, Devon Achane, and Jaylen Wright. Everyone on this offense has game-changing speed.
I mean, honestly, Tua doesn't have to do a whole lot. Get the ball to these guys in space and just let them do the rest. Last year, Tua had an average depth of target of only 7.7 yards. He's not having to go deep down the field all the time to score points, which is great. 4,600 yards and an average depth of target of only 7.7 yards means his receiving options are racking up yards after the catch.
Now, there will always be some concern about the concussion issues that he's had in the past, but you're getting him in the eighth round, the late eighth round. You aren't overpaying for potential production. If he had no red flags, he'd be drafted a lot earlier, and the quarterback position is deep enough that if, for some reason, Tua does go down, there are going to be other viable options on the waiver wire.
He may not give you that warm, fuzzy quarterback one feeling, but I'm not opposed to rolling out Tua in 2024.
