QB: Matthew Stafford - LAR

Matthew Stafford has to be one of my favorite sleeper quarterbacks here in 2024. I don't understand why more people don't love him. Maybe it's because statistically his numbers have been a little bit lower the last couple of seasons. He's been under 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in both years, but why? Do you go back and actually look as to why his numbers were a little bit lower?

Well, 2022 was an absolute disaster. Stafford himself suffered multiple injuries in season and dealt with elbow injuries in the offseason leading up to the year. He ended up missing eight games. Let's also not forget that Cooper Kupp missed eight games that season as well. Ben Skowronek had to be the team's number one overall wide receiver that season, so 2022 is an absolute wash.

So what about last year? How come he couldn't get to 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns? Last year, he had 3,965 yards and 24 touchdowns. So in reality, he was only 35 yards and one touchdown short, and he did it while missing two games. And he didn't even have Cooper Kupp for five games. Kyren Williams missed five games as well.

I really don't think this offense hit its stride and really started to work as a cohesive group until the second half of the season. Because when Kyren Williams came back from his mid-season injury in week 12, the offense absolutely clicked. Prior to week 12, Matthew Stafford had only one game where he threw multiple touchdowns out of nine games played. From week 12 on, he had multiple touchdown passes in five of his six games played.

From weeks 12 to 17, Matthew Stafford averaged 20.8 fantasy points per game and was the overall quarterback six in fantasy football. But when you look even closer during that same span, he was only two points away from being the quarterback three overall. He would have outscored Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Dak Prescott. The dude was absolutely balling. He finished 2023 top 12 among all NFL quarterbacks in passing yards and touchdowns still, but he also had a ridiculous amount of dropped passes by his pass catchers—some of the most by any quarterback in the NFL, 36 of them. Now, 13 of them alone came from Puka Nacua, and you have to think going into his second year, that's going to be a number that improves. That's not going to happen each and every season.

Now, the Rams enter the 2024 year more healthy than they have been in years past. Puka, Kupp, Demarcus Robinson, Kyren Williams, Tyler Higbee—if they can start off how they finished 2023, Matthew Stafford is absolutely going to blow his ADP out of the water.
