Injury Breakdown: Michael Thomas - NO

If I made a poster child for the "Do Not Draft" list, it would probably be Michael Thomas. Now, Michael Thomas had arguably the most dominant four-year run of any wide receiver starting their NFL career from 2016 to 2019. He's supremely talented when he's healthy and when he's getting fed a ton of volume. But I digress, the problem is that we haven't seen him healthy since his Offensive Player of the Year performance in 2019.

Yet here I am, for the third year in a row, advising people against drafting him as he once again finds himself inside the top 50 wide receivers being drafted. Thomas's turf toe injury, which he later admitted was actually a dislocation, is just another in a laundry list of injuries that have contributed to his fall from fantasy stardom. Interestingly, both last season and in 2021, reports from around the Saints indicate that Thomas did not heal the way that he expected to following his injury.

Now, I don't want to speculate, but I find it very interesting that the team's medical staff is repeatedly getting blamed for Thomas not recovering as expected. I just find that a little bit suspicious. It's rare for a player to throw shade at a team's medical staff, and we've seen it not once, but twice now with Michael Thomas. If he's not on the same page with the medical staff, how can we trust him to remain healthy for an entire season with the Saints? I certainly don't, which is why he's on my do not draft list, again.
