I don't believe that Matthew Stafford was healthy at any point last season. He came into training camp with elbow tendonitis, only played in nine games, and only went over 15 fantasy points twice last year. Then he got shut down for a spinal cord contusion and two concussions.
Now, a spinal cord contusion is just a bruise of the spinal cord, but the spinal cord is not like your typical tissue. It takes a long time for the spinal cord to heal, so Matthew Stafford was still healing well into January, even though he got shut down mid-year last year. But once it's healed, it shouldn't be an issue moving forward, as long as he doesn't have another spinal cord contusion in the exact same spot.
Now, Matthew Stafford took a major step back last year and has become turnover-prone in his last two seasons. 25 interceptions in his last 26 regular season games. But he still has Cooper Kupp and he still has Sean McVay. And the Rams may be throwing in the towel, but I think that there's a chance that Matthew Stafford could still be viable from a fantasy perspective.
But the problem is, I don't think that we're getting a big enough injury discount for the risk that you have with Matthew Stafford. The man has had 18 recorded injuries in his career, which is enough for three NFL careers, let alone one for a guy going into his 15th season. I just don't trust that at his current ADP as the 22nd quarterback off the board, you're calculating enough risk for the chance that he could get hurt and just call it quits midway through the season.
He's going to go on my do not draft list this year, and it sucks because I really do think that when he's healthy, he's one of the better quarterbacks in the league, still 15 years in.
