DRBR: Dallas Cowboys

Updated: Jul 3, 2025

There's nothing in the Dallas Cowboys DRBR that gets us super excited. But maybe it's not last year's numbers that we should be paying the most attention to. Maybe we need to go back a few years instead.

Even by NFL standards, Javonte Williams is still pretty young. He's only 25 years old, and he doesn't have a whole lot of miles on the tread either because of his injury that cost him a majority of his sophomore season, and the fact that the new regime with Sean Payton just didn't really utilize him all that much. This guy has still got some game left in him.

So what about the way his DRBR looked back after his rookie year? Because that season, he scored 75 in yards after contact and he scored 100 in tackles avoided per attempt. He was one of the most explosive, efficient running backs in all the NFL during his rookie year.

So, what Javonte Williams do you believe will be in Dallas? The one that showcases the numbers that are in this file right now — last year's DRBR scores — or do you think Javonte Williams still has a little bit left in him and wants to also showcase the fact that Denver made a mistake by not keeping him around?

If you get that Javonte Williams that puts up numbers like we saw back in his rookie season, you're going to get a guy that is a top-24 running back based solely on what we've seen from the DRBR in the past.

Miles Sanders, the other veteran offseason signing, probably will get some touches as well — especially early on in the season — but we haven't seen anything dynamic from him in a while, or at least nothing that has made me excited to think that he could end up being the guy.

Now, as far as guys already on the roster, Deuce Vaughn has some really nice DRBR efficiency numbers — 64 in yards after contact (which is not where he will make his living), but 100 in tackles avoided per attempt. I would love to see him get more involved in the passing game, but they drafted Jaydon Blue.

Where does he fit in? Will he be a part of the passing game? Will he see touches on the ground? Phil Mafah — he may be the rookie on the way out. If he doesn't have a good camp, he may not last on the roster very long. Go ahead and throw a dart, because that could end up being the best way to find out which one of these guys will be the most fantasy relevant.

But if we're talking about the DRBR — what we've seen from the numbers, not just this year but in years past — I'm still gonna bet that Javonte Williams has a pretty sizable workload this season, especially if he can get back to the way that he looked his rookie year. If that's gone, however, and the injury unfortunately has taken too much from him, he will be one of the first ones also gone.
