Current Injury Updates: Updated 8/18/24

Updated 8/17 by Dr. Ethan Turner

Jaylen Warren - Hamstring Strain - 8/17 - Warren pulled his hamstring in Pittsburgh’s Week 2 Preseason game. He’s expected to miss a couple weeks, but hamstring injuries go from a couple weeks to a month plus pretty quickly. I typically downgrade players with hamstring strains considerably on my board, but there’s no guarantee he will actually miss any games.
Concern Level: Moderate

Christian Kirk - Calf Strain - 8/15 - Kirk’s calf injury doesn’t sound major as he’s being held out as a precaution. The injury was described as day to day and isn’t expected to hamper his ability to play in Week 1. I’m not worried about it at all.
Concern Level: None

Jordan Addison - Ankle Sprain - 8/14 - Addison was carted off in a team joint practice with the Browns. While the injury wasn’t considered a major issue, it’s still a question as to if he will be ready Week 1. The team seems confident he will play, but if this is a grade two injury it may take him a few weeks to ramp up to full speed once he returns. I’m okay with drafting him, but I’d wait an extra round to make that choice if you’re worried about the ankle.
Concern Level: Moderate

JJ McCarthy - Meniscus Tear - 8/14 - McCarthy tore his Meniscus in his first NFL game in Week 1 of the preseason. The surgeon and team opted to have a repair done, likely due to the size or location of the tear to ensure tha McCarthy will have a full recovery and maintain a portion of his meniscus for the future. From a recovery standpoint McCarthy has about 6-9 months of rehab ahead of him but should be ready for next season.
Concern Level: Major

Diontae Johnson - Groin Strain - 8/13 - Johnson was injured in practice but it’s being described as minor. He’s had issues with strains and sprains in the past and this just adds to that history. This injury sounds mild based on reports and the team expects DJ to play in Week 1.
Concern Level: Mild

Jahmyr Gibbs - Hamstring Strain - 8/12 - Gibbs injured his hamstring in practice and the team has already said they plan to slow play his recovery. The injury isn’t considered major, but no official grade has been released so it’s hard to say just how bad it is. Despite this all of the reports from the Lions indicate they think Gibbs will be fine for Week 1.
Concern Level: Mild

Love this. A suggestion and I know it might sound crazy for fantasy fans but could you add the position and team the injured guy plays for?
